bytecode instrumentation would be good yes.

About what I use then yes for all the code generation / reverse egnineering I use the data available from the Configuration.
I currently also use the SchemaExport and SchemaUpdate classes, but I'm very close on scratching them completely since they control things I would rather control in the tools code.
