Hi Hardy I would be happy to do this (already did actually), but have some questions:
It is trivial  to set this limit to a DirectoryProvider level, nobody is expecting this do be set on a per-field basis, right?

I actually had this implemented in one of my previous patches, but removed it before commit as we didn't discuss about
exposing this option to users.
