Generally I found this approach usefull for DerbyDialect, a subclass of DB2Dialect:


  public String getSelectClauseNullString(int p_sqlType)
  {
    return "CAST(NULL AS " + getTypeName(p_sqlType, 1, 1, 1) + ")";
  }
