Hi Lars, 

I don't think we have any unit tests that use native SQL with LOBs. It would help a lot if you (or anyone else) could attach a test case that reproduces the problem using a MySQL-specific test case.

The easiest way would probably be to extend:
  https://svn.jboss.org/repos/hibernate/core/trunk/testsuite/src/test/java/org/hibernate/test/lob/TextTest.java
and create a new mapping that uses native SQL based on:
  https://svn.jboss.org/repos/hibernate/core/trunk/testsuite/src/test/java/org/hibernate/test/lob/TextMappings.hbm.xml
