Aleksander Adamowski commented on HHH-2808:
-------------------------------------------
Also, JBoss officially publishes this kind of configuration for jBPM3:
http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbpm/jbpm3/trunk/modules/core/src/main/resources/hibernate.cache.xml
jBPM framework is commercially supported by JBoss/Red Hat (http://www.jboss.com/products/jbpm/).
This leads to a contradiction where JBoss offers an invalid configuration involving two of its commercially supported products (Hibernate and jBPM).
I understand there may be some architectural hurdles making resolution difficult, but how on earth can this not be considered a bug to be fixed is beyond me.
I vote for reopening this issue.

> Basically, hibernate allows to define <cache usage="transactional"/> inside the subclass mapping, i.e.
> <subclass name="SubClass" extends="BaseClass" discriminator-value="xxx">
> <bag name="subClassLinks" lazy="false" inverse="true" batch-size="100">
> <cache usage="transactional" region="xxx"/>
> <key column="xxx" not-null="true"/>
> <one-to-many class="xxx"/>
> </bag>
>
> <join table="xxx">
> </join>
> </subclass>
> but it's not allowed to do the same using <collection-cache collection="subClass.myCollection" region="xxx" usage="transactional"/>.
> It throws:
> Exception in thread "main" org.hibernate.MappingException: Cannot cache an unknown collection: subClass.myCollection
