My apologies for filing this bug prematurely. My class hierarchy has an unindexed subclass; since this uses Hibernate for the query naturally it gets all subclasses and attempts to index them.  I'll try using MassIndexer once for each indexed subtype and compare with 'the old way' to see which is more performant.  Thanks and OK to close this.
