@Emmanuel I'm not sure it would be many times faster to load by id (and why would we load by id from the index anyway?), the feature is meant to solve the issue with range queries.
It might be worth trying, but in case would you be ok in chaning the default encoding for all ids?
Perhaps making confusion with the discussion we had about FieldCaches? that's cool for the ids ;)
