The name of the keyword is of course debatable ;-) 
Since you were mentioning working syntax I wonder if we could somehow treat the expression (however we name it and however we mark it in the message string) as a script. Basically similar to {{@ScriptAssert}}. This would also solve the problem of undefined {{toString}}.
