Using the following dialect solves the schema generation issue for me:

public class WorkingOracle11gDialect extends Oracle10gDialect {
    public WorkingOracle11gDialect() {
        registerColumnType(java.sql.Types.BOOLEAN, "Number(1,0)");
    }
}
