The reason for the UUID is for zero-conf, within-the-same-VM ser/deser.  Its a tad overkill to make users specify a config option in the single-VM case when we dont really need it.

Yes for clusters, etc  we will need a unique identifier for identifying which EMF.  But isnt that there already a notion of a "PU name"?  Does that not suffice?
