Personally I am fine with the {{ClassCastException}}. It it pretty obvious what the problem is imo. The exception is raised in your "own" code and not somewhere in the guts of Validator. Admittedly we could create our own more descriptive error message, but let's leave it like this for now. 
I've seen you added a comment. So we can revisit this idea later.
