I agree we don't need an empty interface, but maybe even better than remove it could to move all methods we need to an interface and avoid keeping dependency to the AbstractDocumentBuilder ?

There are many changes scheduled for the AbstractDocumentBuilder, maybe at some point we will need multiple alternative implementations.
