I'm sorry Harry, we had a discussion on the mailing list and several people objected against an update on the 3.4 branch. Lucene didn't make progress only, there are some performance regressions as well for which we are having clever workarounds in 4.0x but make back porting non-trivial.

I've tested 3.4.2-SNAPSHOT with Lucene 3.3 and 3.4, both work fine: feel free to use them, but we won't upgrade the dependency in a minor release.
