It is also possible to do a gradual migration.  Keep working in SVN but 
push changes to Git as well, and then people can try out Git and make 
sure there are no issues/missing branches/whatever.

As an aside, I've done a few of these now, so if you guys have any 
questions or problems you're welcome to ping me here or on IRC.  In 
particular I've figured out workarounds for a couple git-svn bugs which 
might crop up.
