Apparently this is rooted in https://lampsvn.epfl.ch/trac/scala/ticket/3415.

I think Ismael might have a point when saying that it's an issue with mixed Java/Scala compilation. When you compile in IDE, everything is compiled at the same time, whereas when compiling via maven, each individual module is compiled separately. This might explain why the issue is not present when building from maven.
