As per comments from David, there appears to be a tool to automate this:

"Yes, absolutely.  It's in maven at org.jboss.logging:jboss-logging-tool, add it as a "provided" maven dep and the annotation processor will kick in and generate your log messages and message bundles.

Not much of a user guide yet but the org.jboss.logging javadoc covers it fairly well.  The ones at http://docs.jboss.org/jbosslogging/3.0.0.Beta5-SNAPSHOT/ might be a little out of date but should be mostly correct."
