While working at this I've discovered the following set of issues:
the plugin depends on jboss-logging and on infinispan-core. 
shjohnso has discovered there are compatiblity issues between the RHQ agent and jboss-logging. Because of this and also to align with all of the other RHQ plugins, I intend to migrate to commons-logging (yuck).
I have also removed the dependency on infinispan-core since that required carrying it along in the plugin.
