Hmmm, odd. Having looked around no other call to getConsistentHash() expects some kind of null return, so it must be due to some race condition.
Could you tell us more about the circumstances under which this exception appears?
Maybe the call is happening during rehashing? If the issue is related to rehashing, we could maybe halt KeyAffinityServiceImpl generating keys while rehashing is on-going.
