You're right [~karlvr], an invalidation cache without {{putForExternalRead()}} wouldn't be very usable. The question in my mind was whether it makes sense in general to combine invalidation with time-based expiration, e.g. wouldn't a local cache without cluster-wide invalidation work better in your case?
