> When utilising upserts with SQL server an SQL exception is thrown due to a `ambiguous column name`. 
> The existing upstert statement also causes concurrency issues as SQL server does not handle MERGE statements atomically. Consequently it is necessary for a table lock to be acquired per merge statement in order to prevent deadlocks from occurring.
