There is a very good overview of contenders at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_JavaScript-based_source_code_editors The requirement list is:
 - wide browser support
 - open source friendly license
 - embeddable using Typescript definitions
 - syntax highlighting 
 - multiple language support (JSON and Protobuf)
 - other minor nice-to-have editor capabilities
