I would not change the semantics of {{clear()}} either, rather add another method. Also, we should add a new event {{CacheTruncated}} that won't contain all the entries, and indexing could use that to update its records.
I wouldn't mind too much changing {{RemoteCache.clear()}} to use truncate, though.
