Disabling the state transfer can be used if Infinispan is used as a cache. In this case the data loss isn't a problem since you can re-compute or retrieve the value from persistence... 

I took a look at EAP7-888 and the point #2 is confusing: "Disabled. In this mode, the cache populates with the appropriate data as it is accessed."
I don't recall to see this behaviour in Infinispan.
