Ok, maybe i should have explained better - Currently we have an 
operation which returns the configuration of a resource and can 
optionally contain metrics (this  might be more useful to other clients 
than RHQ). Additionally we have a single read attribute operation - 
which can be used to retrieve a single metric value.

We can certainly add a 'query-metrics' operation which will only return 
the metrics for a given resource. Additionally you will have the option 
to do a 'composite operation' of multiple single read attribute queries 
you are interested in.
