I think the separate commits are due to using webdav for deployment.  Using 
webdav gives the convenience of not needing to check out the repository.  I have 
a helpdesk ticket open to move the maven repository commits into a separate 
mailing list from the regular commits, so that these message don't flood this 
list, but I haven't had a response yet.
