Use org.jboss.ejb3.entity.TreeCacheProviderHook, not org.hibernate.cache.TreeCacheProvider.  The former is coded to the JBC 2.0 API.

It's not really a bug, it's more of an as-yet-unresolved integration issue.  See Issue #6 at http://wiki.jboss.org/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=JBossCacheHibernateAlignment.
