Kurt's brain and mine are very different I think :-)  I wouldn't see the big OR small picture when the config becomes over fragmented with everything referencing everything else.  You end up replacing duplication of the actual config parameters with duplication of reference ids all over your config, while not being able to see the wood from the trees :-)

I'm looking forward to hearing what others think about this.  In th mean time, I'm off home :-)
