I cannot give you the eta. I'm doing some additional work on configuration at the moment. Implementation should't take long but some other changes need to be applied to the portal code when switching the implementations. If you want to look at implementation that is present you can check at org.jboss.portal.test.identity.ldap package where test cases are stored.
