Yes, you could say that. For now, I haven't figured out a way, to let the portal servlet itself find out if this is a regular post from a portlet or if it is an XMLHttpRequest. That's why my request needs to have the additional parameter 'lmgajax' set to true. I use the Ajax factory pattern for creating ajax requests. The factory creates the parameter itself.
