This was done long ago.
Don't know why it wasn't assigned to me.

If I remember correctly we had some thoughts of leaving this feature completely to AOP and its lifecycle callbacks.

OK, the bottom line is that it's done and I closed the JIRA issue. ;-)
You can now go ahead with issue 71.
