jbpm console uses graph plugin to deal with this, you can find its code base  https://github.com/droolsjbpm/jbpm/tree/master/jbpm-gwt/jbpm-gwt-graph/src/main/java/org/jbpm/integration/console/graph here. This should give you some ideas how you could incorporate it into your application.
