I've backported the major fix which is to catch all Throwables from configure()
otherwise errors like invalid dependency ObjectNames leads to the MBean
being left registered in the MBeanServer even though it is no longer under
ServiceController control.

Also added some helpers to ServiceContext to print human readable versions
of the state.
