It may work in this way, but it doesn't feel right as it blurs the lifecycle of the semantic element. Let me think about this and try to come up with a working solution.
Btw. I infer from your previous comment that you guys are doing xpdl on top of jbpm? Can you elaborate on this? Are you planning to contribute something?
