Instead of converting the existing JBossRetro, it might be easier to either use an existing translator plugin such as this one:

Or work off the retro weaver code
http://retroweaver.sourceforge.net/

And possibly contribute a retroweaver plugin back to the maven repository, since it looks like no one is working on this plugin.
