This attached patch (for 2.4) doesn't work, as it tries to bind to the multicast (class D) address, which is *not* a valid interface:

tmp_addr=InetAddress.getByName(mcast_addr_name);
mcast_recv_sock=new MulticastSocket(new InetSocketAddress(tmp_addr, mcast_port));

So tmp_addr is (for example) 228.10.10.15, which will fail on creation of the MulticastSocket as this is not a valid interface !
