I still can't come up with a standalone test-case but we see consistently in IE, and this is exactly when it happens:

* Maximize the portlet.
* If it works, then all is well.
* If it doesn't work the first time and you ended up clicking more than once, this is what causes the problem. The maximize ends up happening but when you minimize again, the portlet disappears.

This is a showstopper for us, so any help would be highly appreciated. Note that this doesn't ever happen on Firefox.
