Bela Ban commented on JGRP-196:
-------------------------------

Look into using a description language to describe the types and then generate the marshalling code. This code would reside in a factory, so the marshalled instances could be *immutable*.

Something like Google Protocol Buffers. This could possibly also generate the C marshalling code for the wireshark plugin

> Goal: JGroups versions are able to read messages from older and *newer* versions.
> Solution: provide a plugin directory which contains marshaller factories which are keyed by version ID and know how to read/write to/from older/newer versions.
