The original diagnosis looks wrong to me. It's not a matter of having a property editor for HashMaps (which doesn't make sense, anyway, if it is only to do a toString() on the hashmap), rather fix twiddle to call toString() on the returned object, when no property editor is found. In fact, looking up property editors just for printing things out is unecessary as well, but I left if there anyway.
