I am still stumbling upon this issue while reading "Java Persistence with Hibernate".
(comming from http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/EJB-267)

This is some major feature - as Gavin and Christian described it in their book. It took me a day and a night to understand that it was not me doing the example wrong but JBoss not interpreting the annotation.

I humbly vote for a fix.
