Yes, and its my project so I choose CR1 :-)

The reason is that CR could be GA (otherwise the name "candidate release" doesn't make sense).

By branching you allow developers to play with the trunk as much as they want without effecting
the upcoming release. It also ensures that developers think about what they are doing when
porting a fix to the now stable branch, e.g. no incompatible api changes.
