Although available via the profileservice apis, use of the profileservice does introduce server specific classes that tooling wants to avoid. The remaining functionality to be provided via a JMX and or REST type of api include:

List deployed apps/modules/resources
Stop/start apps/modules/resources
Deploy/hotdeploy apps/modules/resources
