How about:

unmarshal(Source source)
{
         if (source instanceof DOMSource)
         {
            Node node = ((DOMSource)source).getNode();
            ... // process node
         }
         else throw new UnsupportedOperationException();
}

Or you prefer to use DOMSource class directly in your method signatures?
