The dgree to which JGroups versions interoperate is determined by their stated compatibility relationships.

The purpose of this issue is to:
(i) clarify the desired backward compatibility conditions in use for JGroups
(ii) devise tests which validate those relationships and incorporate them into the JGroups testsuite
