The old Maven repository included an archetype-catalog file (http://repository.jboss.org/maven2/archetype-catalog.xml).  There should be a way to host this in Nexus.  Possibly the Nexus archetype plugin can be used (https://docs.sonatype.org/display/Nexus/Nexus+Archetype+Plugin).
