Looks like the problem is that the remote spy repo doesn't have good checksum files available.  Nexus was set to strict checksum checking on this remote repo, and since there wasn't any checksum, the files weren't downloaded.  I've changed the checksum policy to "warn" so you should be able to get the remote files now.
