My question about going back and forth between ASYNC and SYNC logging.  This is really a number of steps.  If there is no ASYNC logger defined, we would need to add one and attach all the handlers to it and update the root logger to use the ASYNC. Should this really be a single op, or should we just make sure we have all the supporting ops available to perform the task?
