Jaikiran, the name was defined as "instance-id" that you can specify as an attribute in your web subsystem element. This value should be picked up by all mod_jk/mod_proxy and mod_cluster. See changeset 44868e63c31d4b1cc5dcd88caa4f13fbe7e9d3e2.
