Jason proposed to solve this for now by producing a patched version of saaj-impl that uses the bunbled Xerces lib. The attached patch (meant for saaj-impl 1.3.16 tag) basically replaces the com.sun.org.apache.* internal dependencies with the usual org.apache.* ones.
