The idea is not to replace Weld 1.x with Weld 2 but rather to host the Weld 2 integration code (which has been hosted in a fork of JBoss AS so far and this represented an additional effort to mantain) in the upstream repository. Ideally, a build profile would be used that would allow AS7 to be built with either Weld 1.x (by default) or Weld 2. We would use this for special AS7 releases that we do along with Weld 2 releases.
