Currently, we have a mix of dynamic (Hibernate persistence provider) level management operations that we manage and more static management also (at the JPA subsystem level).  The static management, handles getting/setting configuration settings.  The dynamic management, only works with Hibernate 4.1.x jpa applications currently but will hopefully do more in the future (other hibernate versions/other persistence providers).
